Azure Ray - November

Review by Zahrul Addini

November by Azure Ray is a beautifully crafted album that showcases the duo's unique sound and style. The album is a perfect blend of dreamy melodies, haunting vocals, and introspective lyrics that take the listener on an emotional journey.

The opening track, "Wake Up, Sleepyhead," sets the tone for the album with its gentle guitar strums and ethereal vocals. The song sets the stage for the rest of the album, which features a mix of slow ballads and more upbeat tracks.

One standout song on the album is "Don't Leave My Mind," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases the duo's vocal harmonies and poetic lyrics. The song is a testament to the power of simplicity, with just a few guitar chords and vocals carrying the emotional weight of the song.

Another standout track is "If You Fall," a more upbeat song that features a catchy melody and driving rhythm. The song showcases the duo's versatility and ability to create a range of sounds and moods.

Lyrics
So I'm waiting for this test to end
So these lighter days can soon begin
I'll be alone by maybe more carefree
Like a kite that floats so effortlessly

I was afraid to be alone
Now I'm scared that's how id like to be
All the faces none the same
How can there be so many personalities

So many lifeless empty hands
So many hearts in great demand
And now my sorrow seems to far away
Until I'm taken by these bults of pain

But I turn them off and tuck them away
Till these rainy days that make them stay
And then ill cry so hard to these sad songs
And the words still ring, once here now gone

And they echo through my head everyday
And I don't think they'll ever go away
Just like thinking of your childhood home
But we can't go back were on our own

Oh
But I'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself

So were speeding towards that time of year
To the day that marks your not here
And I think ill want to be alone
So please understand that I don't answer the phone

I'll just sit and stare at my deep blue walls
Until I can see nothing at all
Only particles some fast some slow
All mys can see is all I know

Oh
But I'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself

Just was remembering falling in love with Azure Ray in my Midwestern high school in the early 2000s. Between 2000 and 2003 they put out 3 albums and an EP and they were all fantastic. I don't think they've ever gotten nearly the acclaim they deserve.

Just like thinking of your childhood home but we can't go back, we're on our own

I listened to this a lot as a teenager. I didn't analyze the lyrics back then.. but now -- what a downer of a song.. The fact that I listened to it over and over back then speaks to how lonely and sad I was all the time throughout my entire childhood and adolescence. what a poor boy.

21/7/2020. i wonder if i'm the only broken soul playing this music right now in this sunny London park. This song just touches every single string of my hopeful, defeated, nostalgic heart.
Beyond beautiful.

I was in my early 20s when this album first came out and I ripped it from Limewire while living in NYC, going to college and shacked up with my Gen X boyfriend in an apartment on the Hudson River ?

2020, two cellphones later and I finally found this pice I missed so much to heard in my lonely days, the days I spend in dates with myself. I can say I feel complete now.

I was scared to be alone. Now I'm afraid that's how I like to be.
Echos into my consciousness.

And here we were again. November, rainy deep blue-walled solitude and boutique music to reflect the prevailing mood... ?
