Review by rick kennerly

Sonatas for Violin and Piano Op 12 by Beethoven is a masterpiece of classical music. The album is performed by the legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin and pianist Louis Kentner. The duo has done an excellent job in bringing out the beauty and complexity of Beethoven's work.

The album comprises of three sonatas, each of which has its unique character and mood. The first sonata is full of energy and vitality, while the second one is more introspective and melancholic. The third sonata is a perfect blend of the two and is a fitting conclusion to the album.

Yehudi Menuhin's playing is exceptional. His mastery over the violin is evident in every note he plays. His technique is flawless, and he brings out the nuances of Beethoven's music beautifully. Louis Kentner's piano accompaniment is equally impressive. His playing is sensitive and supportive, providing the perfect backdrop for Menuhin's violin.

The recording quality of the album is excellent. The sound is clear and well-balanced, allowing the listener to appreciate the music in all its glory. The liner notes provide useful information about the music, making it easier for the listener to understand and appreciate it.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.
