Review by Euan Rankin

The Complete Gus Wildi Recordings by Bill Evans is a must-have for any jazz aficionado. This album features some of Evans' earliest recordings, made in 1956 and 1957 for the Swiss label, Riverside. The 2-CD set includes 24 tracks, showcasing the pianist's virtuosity and sensitivity.

The sound quality of these recordings is excellent, considering their age, and the liner notes provide valuable historical context. The album includes several Evans originals, as well as standards like "Stella by Starlight" and "You and the Night and the Music." The pianist is joined by bassist Teddy Kotick and drummer Paul Motian on most of the tracks, and their interplay is outstanding.
