Dordán - Irish Traditional Baroque

Review by Mario Mayerle Filho

Irish Traditional Baroque, the latest album by the Irish band Dordán, is a brilliant fusion of two distinct musical genres - traditional Irish music and Baroque music. The album features a collection of traditional Irish tunes arranged in a Baroque style, with the addition of Baroque instruments such as the harpsichord, viola da gamba, and Baroque guitar.

The album opens with the hauntingly beautiful "The Lament for Limerick," featuring the soulful sound of the uilleann pipes and the delicate harpsichord accompaniment. The album then moves on to more upbeat tracks such as "The Humours of Drinagh" and "The Merry Blacksmith," which showcase the band's virtuosic playing and their ability to seamlessly blend the two musical styles.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Butterfly," a traditional Irish reel that has been given a Baroque makeover with the addition of the viola da gamba and the Baroque guitar. The result is a stunningly beautiful rendition of a classic tune that is sure to delight fans of both traditional Irish music and Baroque music.
