About George "Kid Sheik" Cola

American jazz trumpeter. Born: September 15, 1908 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Died: November 07, 1996 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Started playing blues piano c. 1920, took up trumpet inspired by Wooden Joe Nicholas and Chris Kelly for whom he sat in from time to time. Played second trumpet with Buddy Petit. Marched with Kid René's band (1930s) and the Eureka Brass Band (since 1952). Still blowing strong in New Orleans in 1970. His 'Gin Mill Blues' is a nice 'fish fries' boogie (from "Deep South Piano" by Karl Gert zur Heide)
