Review by Cantona Ong

When I Grow Too Old To Dream, the latest album from Jane Pickens, is a delightful collection of classic tunes that transport listeners back to a bygone era. With her rich, velvety voice and impeccable timing, Pickens imbues each track with a sense of nostalgia and longing that is both heartwarming and bittersweet.

From the opening notes of the title track, it is clear that Pickens is a master of her craft. Her rendition of "When I Grow Too Old To Dream" is both haunting and ethereal, capturing the essence of the song's wistful lyrics. Throughout the album, she showcases her versatility as a vocalist, effortlessly transitioning from upbeat numbers like "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Steppin' Out With My Baby" to more introspective ballads like "Autumn Leaves" and "Moon River."

One of the standout tracks on the album is "At Last," a soulful rendition of the classic Etta James song. Pickens' voice is at its most powerful here, imbuing the lyrics with a sense of longing and passion that is truly captivating. Similarly, her rendition of "My Funny Valentine" is a masterclass in vocal control and emotional depth.
