About Jess
Jess is a pop-rock band from Cardigan, Wales. Formed in 1987, the basis of their stylistic sound is strong melodic music with powerful, driving rhythm and soaring vocal harmonies
The group's first release-a six track cassette of their most popular songs-appeared in August 1988 and earned the group an invitation to tour Czechoslovakia, where their particular style attracted large audiences. It was during this highly successful tour that Jess shot their first live videos, at venues in Prague and other cities.
Other tours followed in Wales and Ireland, and as demand for live appearances grew, the band turned professional in 1989. Another album release prompted the making of more music videos and television coverage of live performances.
At the end of 1989 Jess' considerable momentum was boosted when they were voted to receive 'Best Group'. 'Best Cassette Release' and 'Best Singer' awards at a ceremony in Wales.
1990 began auspiciously for Jess when they were asked to support The Alarm at a series of concerts.
Their third album was released on C.D. and cassette-15 songs recorded and produced by the band. In August 1991 they were invited to play at Sweden's epic festival at Hultsfred, on the same bill were James, Davie Stewart and The Black Crowes.
In August '92 their fourth album was released on their own record label, titled 'Paris Hotel': in October their debut English E.P. titled Sextravaganja. was released.
In 1993 Jess' relationship with Mike Peters (Ex Alarm), took a dramatic leap forward when Mike invited Jess to become his band, so forming 'Mike Peters and the Poets.
