Born in 1943 in El Dorado, Arizona. He cut his first record as Jessie James and the Royal Aces in July 1961. Friend and member of The Royal Aces was Sylvester Stewart aka . He recorded a few singles for the area labels Shirley and Hit (several with guitar work from ), then made the big time when he switched to . "Believe In Me Baby, Pt. 1" was a modest pop and R&B hit during 1967.
His biggest hit, 1970's "Don't Nobody Want to Get Married, Pt. 2," reached the R&B Top 20 for the , and he continued recording during the '70s and '80s for and . The latter was the label for full-lengths like 1988's "I Can Do Bad by Myself" and 1993's "Operator Please Put Me Through". Could have used as pseudonym.

You know what, I hate this term ‘northern Soul’ which to a new generation of people it’s kinded of taken on this life of its own which is just bull. There is no such thing as ‘northern Soul’ it's just plain soul music mostly from the 60s and have nothing to do with a bunch of northern factory worker and being northerners they are by nature very racist, after all there the same people who made the southern states of America that should tell you all you need to know about them. There is nothing wrong in liking the music, but to try and change the history of this black American music, by claiming it as an English created music is just rubbish it had nothing to do with the English at all.
