Review by Freek Zonderland

Juliette Gréco's album "Paname" is a beautiful tribute to the city of Paris. The French chanteuse's rich, sultry voice is perfectly suited to the romantic, melancholic songs that make up the album. From the opening track, "Paris Canaille," to the haunting "Chanson pour l'Auvergnat," Gréco captures the essence of the city and its people.

The arrangements are simple and elegant, with acoustic guitar and piano providing the perfect accompaniment to Gréco's vocals. The songs are mostly in French, but even non-French speakers will be able to appreciate the emotion and beauty of the music.

Standout tracks include "Sous le Ciel de Paris," a classic ode to the city, and "La Rue des Blancs-Manteaux," a haunting ballad about lost love. Gréco's voice is at its most powerful on these tracks, conveying both sadness and hope in equal measure.
