Review by Naveen Rajput

The album Renaissance Dances by Lionel Rogg and the Ancient Instrument Ensemble of Zurich is an exquisite musical journey through the Renaissance era. The album features a collection of traditional dance pieces from the 15th and 16th centuries, performed on authentic period instruments by some of the most talented musicians of the genre.

The album opens with the lively and energetic "La Spagna," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The ensemble's use of period instruments, such as the lute, viola da gamba, and harp, creates an authentic and captivating sound that transports the listener back in time.

The album also features slower, more contemplative pieces such as "Pavana," which showcases the ensemble's ability to create a hauntingly beautiful sound. The use of multiple instruments, layered on top of each other, creates a rich and complex sound that is both mesmerizing and soothing.
