Review by Rikin Patel

The Romantic Guitars Of Sabicas And Escudero From The Pampas To The Rio Grande is a beautiful album that showcases the talents of two legendary guitarists. Sabicas and Escudero have a deep understanding of the guitar and its capabilities, and they use this knowledge to create music that is both romantic and passionate.

The album features a mix of traditional Spanish and Latin American songs, as well as original compositions by Sabicas and Escudero. Each track is performed with precision and care, and the guitar work is simply breathtaking.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "El Vito," a traditional Spanish song that has been given new life by Sabicas and Escudero. The guitar work on this track is particularly impressive, with intricate fingerpicking and rhythmic strumming that perfectly captures the energy and spirit of the song.

About Sabicas And Escudero

Flamenco guitarist of gypsy origins (Spanish: "gitano".) Born in 1912 in Pamplona, Spain and died on the 14th of April 1990 in New York. At the age of five he received his first ("half") guitar and made his first public appearance at the young age of 8. Sabicas was a groundbreaking flamenco artist considered to be one of the most influential innovators of the Flamenco guitar ever. His virtuoso style, often regarded as inimitable and initially influenced by Ramón Montoya, on its term was profoundly influential on a new generation of flamenco guitarists such as Paco de Lucía, Tomatito and Paco Peña. His longtime partnership with Carmen Amaya, Spain's most famous Flamenco dancer, as well artisticly as more particularly as lovers brought him worldwide more than once into the glossy magazines.

I bought this LP by the legendary Spanish duo in a charity shop 35 years ago. Their adaptations of Latin American classics such as Guadalajara, Siboney and Alma Llanera are masterful IMO. Apart from Ay Ay Ay. While beautifully played, their melody bears no relation to the well-known Mexican tune.
That said, thanks for preserving the music of these long-passed masters ?

This melody its a flamenco guitar version of the very traditional and emblematic melody from Guadalajara city on Mexico. (in Spain there are a city with the same name). -The melody its commonly performed by mexican "Mariachi"; a traditional and folcloric band .

Desde luego, Sabicas es extraordinario en el ritmo, la medida o tempo, la potencia, la claridad y musicalidad. Aquí está secundado por otro de los grandes en el flamenco, Mario Escudero. Congratulaciones para ellos (EPD).
