About SSgt Barry Sadler
American singer/songwriter, born November 1, 1940 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Sergeant Sadler was a non-commissioned officer with the "Green Berets" of the U.S. Army Special Forces. He served as a Green Beret medic and Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He is most famous for his 1966 hit "The Ballad Of The Green Berets". At the time his LP "Ballads Of The Green Berets" was released, he was on duty at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as Medical N.C.O. for the "Green Berets". Sadler moved to Guatemala City in the mid 1980's, he was shot in the head one night in a taxi cab while living there. He died on September 8th, 1989 in Tennessee. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain a mystery.

WELL DONE!!!, from a Combat Medic/Flight Medic, serving my first tour of duty, with the "First Air Cavalry Division, 15th Med" as a 91D-20 F.A., But, sent into the "Bush" as a 91B-20, from: 1967-1968. Second Tour of Duty, with the "44th Med. Brigade, 159th DUST-OFF, Med. Det. HEL AMB.

My uncle served three years in Vietnam and was badly shot. He spoke greatly of the nurses who cared for him.
No one feels the pain of war more than the nurses. Talk about The Things They Carried... what a burden these heroes must carry...

I'm proud to have been an Army Nurse! AFter retirement, I was able to continue being an "Army Nurse" in the VA for my Veteran patients! HAUH! Proud to Care!

My father knew Barry Sadler, he was talking about him over dinner 76’. He met him outside a pub, from what I remember Barry was as good of a fighter as he was a singer. Different times, but even then he was larger than life. Thanks for the posting of this. Brought back such good memories.
