Dr Acula - Nation

Review by Erin Morgart BA CPT

Nation, the latest album by Dr Acula, is a high-energy, hardcore punk release that will leave fans of the genre feeling satisfied. The album kicks off with "Ironic Enclosure," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the record with its heavy instrumentation and aggressive vocals.

Throughout the album, Dr Acula shows off their skills as musicians, with impressive guitar riffs and drum beats that will get listeners headbanging. The band also incorporates electronic elements into their sound, adding a unique twist to their punk style.

Lyrically, Nation is a commentary on the state of the world, with songs like "Nation" and "Treason" tackling issues of politics and corruption. The band's message is clear: they're not afraid to speak out against injustice, and they want their fans to do the same.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Say Cheese and Die," which features a catchy chorus and a memorable guitar riff. Another highlight is "Suburban Superstar," a song that showcases the band's ability to blend different genres and create a sound that is all their own.

About Dr Acula

Deathcore from Long Island, NY formed in 2005. The band released five full-length albums on 187 Records, Uprising and Victory Records before initially disbanding in 2012. In 2015, the original lineup - Bill Graffeo (guitar), Bert Vegas (vocals/keys), Rob Accardi (lead vocals), Mike Cosentino (drums), Lou Figurito (guitar), and Rob Guarino (bass) - would reform for a one-off 10th year anniversary show. This lineup would reunite again in 2019 to play a few more shows at Amityville Music Hall, but they would release a new demo track the same day as their first reunion show in 2019. The group would see Bert Vegas depart in 2021, followed by Mike Cosentine in 2022 shortly after completing the recording sessions for their 6th album "Dr. Acula" - their first album in 10 years, and their first work in 15 years with the original lineup.

The band's 2012 album, Nation, is a rehash of their previous works.

So how did they end up taking over Dr acula back in the day, I know a couple people left but it just felt so random at the time. Now the old band is back together
