I attempted to play this as a young kid..it was beyond my capability then. I'm revisiting this piece now...Gershwin was the master of composition. His combination of musical genres was indeed...his genius! I love this piece...????

When I was a member of the Fenger High School concert band way back in 1964, we played Rhapsody In Blue. Our concert band was deemed one of the top High school concert bands in the country. CBS radio spent a week (getting us out of classes!) recording a complete concert we had performed. We had a student named Jan Tildon who did the piano part of the rhapsody. She was as good as any professional I've heard. I played 2nd clarinet. On the program was also Victory At Sea. I still get tears in my eyes whenever I hear Rhapsody In Blue, remembering that performance The recording that CBS Radio made of us was later broadcast nationwide. I phoned CBS in Chicago years later to see if they still had a copy of those recordings and they said the tapes were destroyed several years ago. Too bad. I'm now 75 years old but those memories are as clear as the night we performed this in front of a live audience.
