Terence Blanchard - Eves Bayou

Review by Jim Larsen

Eves Bayou is a stunning album by Terence Blanchard that showcases his immense talent as a jazz musician and composer. The album is a tribute to the 1997 film of the same name, and its hauntingly beautiful melodies and intricate harmonies perfectly capture the film's themes of family, secrets, and the supernatural.

Blanchard's trumpet playing is at its finest on this album, as he weaves intricate solos that are both technically impressive and emotionally resonant. The album also features some of the most talented musicians in jazz today, including saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, pianist Cyrus Chestnut, and bassist Christian McBride, who all contribute to the album's rich and textured sound.

From the moody opener "Eve's Bayou" to the lively and upbeat "D's Choice," the album takes listeners on a journey through a range of emotions and moods. The standout track is undoubtedly "Memory of Love," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases Blanchard's ability to create deeply emotional and evocative music.
